Our Story

Our journey in creation of the Eye Shield and Medical Protective Mask came from a personal need the market didn't fulfill. Friends, meet Jewel. She's my black beauty unicorn horse and I've been lucky to be her rider for 11 years. In 2018 she sustained a sight threatening corneal ulcer. We owe a big thank you to Purdue University for caring for her so diligently. After 2 eye surgeries and a subpalpebral lavage (SPL) system in place for 12 weeks, we were fortunately able to preserve most of her vision. We are still competing and enjoying every run! 

12 weeks of continued eye care is exhausting. We know - we have been there! Between the medication overflow, infection discharge and eye tearing, Jewel's face was constantly wet. She developed sores on her face from the moisture, and I couldn't get them to heal until her eye stopped draining. The eye protector we used rubbed Jewel across the bony prominences of her face, creating ulcers that were untreatable due to the constant friction. I knew these sores were painful; it broke my heart watching her endure even more complications. I searched and searched the market and I couldn't find anything that offered an effective solution. Although our products here at Equine Eye Supply didn't get to benefit my Jewel, our hope is they benefit every horse out there going through a similar journey.
